Choosing a Photo to Draw

You lookin' at me?
Ol' Lou Pemberton has this to say about choosing a which photo to draw your portrait from..

  • Make sure the subject’s head is at least 1.5 inches from the top of the head to the bottom of the chin.
  • Make sure the subject isn’t squinting.
  • Make sure you can see the subject’s eye colour clearly.
  • Make sure there are light and dark areas.
  • Make sure the lighting is good, i.e. no glare or silhouette
  • You can use either a colour photo or black and white photo.
  • You can use either a hard copy or a digital copy.
I have chosen to draw my friend Robert De Niro. The reason I want to draw him are 2 fold.

1) He has an amazing face

2) I don't actually know him personally (despite what he says) so I don't need to worry about insulting him if the picture goes a bit wrong.

Marginally interestingly Lou suggests downloading the Gimp software for image manipulation. I'm not bothering with this. I downloaded DAZ yesterday and it is pointless, and besides I can do what I need to with Picassa.

I'll worry about Gimps later if necessary...
