Drawing characters. Well, this is fun...
I thought it might feel a little childish and not 'proper art', but it is so much fun that who cares!
I didn't know where to start, so I doodled.
The doodling irritated me a bit as my mind wasn't really in it and I got these awful results.
What I really wanted to draw was a little character. To kick off, I copied this little guy, and got this:
He is cute, no? I drew a few of him...
The problem with just copying another drawing is that it isn't my idea. I find I'm not that inspired by straight forward copying, although I think it is a useful part of the process when I need a bit of help.
I then started to create my own little character. I drew this square-head man:
Then I drew a bunch of him:
Slowly he started to get a bit better.
Then I realised I needed some more help (particularly with the eyes) so I read this tutorial which was very helpful. You can see the difference it made:
My next trick will be to pick a character and redraw them several times. Then I will be working on.... Expressions!
