In order to try to copy the technique used in the YouTube video mentioned earlier, I figured I should try to find an image similar to the one used in the tutorial.
I looked at a load of hair images and ended up with this one:
The problem with this is, I hate the picture. I only chose it because:

a) the hair is about as easy as I could find and very similar to the tutorial and
b) I got sick of looking at pictures of hair
I think I'm going to have to ignore the face as much as possible and just focus on the boring hair. I must remember that this is not art - it is an exercise that must be completed before any art can be created.

I know it's awful, but I feel quite uninspired. I'm not sure if I should stop this one and try to find another image with hair that I'm happier with.
It's not that I have anything against the girl in the photo, it's just she has no features. And, let's face it - even her hair is boring.
Right - that's it! I'm going to find a different image.
Important lesson learnt - draw what interests you, or your heart won't be in it and the results will show that.
